Rick Grimes is the former sheriffs deputy who was in a coma for several months after being shot while on duty. When he awakens, he discovers that the world is taken over by zombies, and he seems to be the only person still alive. Having returned home to find his wife and son missing, he went to Atlanta to find his family. Closely escaped death on arrival at the hands of zombies in Atlanta, he is aided by another survivor Glenn takes Rick to camp outside the city. There, Rick finds his wife Lori and son Carl. Together with his partner and best friend Shane, he found a small group of survivors who are struggling to defend the hordes of zombies, as well as compete with other survivor groups who are willing to do whatever it takes to survive.
